Delhi’s air has moved from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category in the last 24 hours. The Air Quality Index i.e. AQI over all was recorded at 346 in Delhi on Saturday. This information came from the data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Out of 37 monitoring stations, 27 AQIs were recorded as ‘very poor’. To reduce this, many necessary steps are being taken by the Indian Biogas Association (IBA). IBA has sent a letter to CM Arvind Kejriwal to allot more money.

IBA appeals to CM Arvind Kejriwal

The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has urged the Delhi government to increase its environmental budget by five times to Rs 700 crore, amid rising air pollution in Delhi and surrounding areas. The IBA, in a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has said that in view of the air pollution in the capital, the budget expenditure on environment should be at least one percent of the total budget allocation, but only 126.9 for the current financial year. Only Rs. crore has been allocated which is very less considering the current situation.

Government should spend 1% of the total budget

The IBA said that the Delhi government should spend one percent of the total budget allocation, or about Rs 700 crore, to tackle the problem of air pollution. This will help in reducing the expenditure on health problems caused by bad air in Delhi. The air quality levels in Delhi and adjoining areas in the months of October-November get very bad for the last several years. Paddy stubble burning in Punjab has been considered the main reason for this problem. However, the IBA said that apart from stubble burning, pollution from vehicles and industrial units, road dust and construction activities also continue to cause air pollution. To deal with this, the Delhi government will have to increase its budget allocation for the environment.
