More cases of DR syndrome are seen in women than men, know how it can be avoided.


DR syndrome, also known as Duane radial ray syndrome, is a disorder that affects the eyes. Along with the eyes, this syndrome also affects the bones of the hands and feet. In this condition, there is a problem in the movement of the eyes which is called Duan anomaly.

If there is any abnormality in the nerves that control the movement of the eyes, then this syndrome is seen. Due to this condition, the eyes cannot look outside i.e. towards the ears. In some cases, the movement of the eyes becomes quite limited.

The eye openings may appear to narrow as the eyes try to look inward. The eye ball may also appear to move backwards. In most of its cases, only one eye is affected and you see everything fine with the other eye. Let us know about this situation.

How common is this syndrome?

This syndrome is not seen in many people. It would not be wrong to keep it in the category of rare syndrome. This syndrome is seen only in 4 to 5 percent people. Although this syndrome can happen to anyone, the risk of it occurring in women is higher than that of men.

This disorder is usually genetic but it is not inherited. When there is any kind of problem in your cranial nerve, then you may see this syndrome. Only 10 percent of the cases are found in which someone else in the family of the person who has this syndrome also gets this syndrome. If there is a family history of this syndrome, it may affect both eyes instead of one. This syndrome follows an autosomal dominant pattern.

No, this syndrome is not contagious at all. This means that if you come in close contact with any of its patients or come in contact with any of their fluids, then you will not get this syndrome.

Its treatment depends on the age, severity and condition of the patient. Some people do not even need its treatment, just keep informing the doctor about it from time to time and keep following up so that the problem does not increase further. Some people may need an eye patch so that their eye can function as well as the other eye. If a person is facing a severe form of this, then your doctor can also perform surgery on your eye muscles.
