New Delhi: These days, Delhi-NCR and many other states across the country are in a bad condition due to extreme heat. Heat wave is prevailing from mountains to plains. The weather department is constantly issuing heatwave alerts. The number of patients in hospitals is also increasing. Doctors are advising people to step out of their homes as little as possible. There is still time for the monsoon to arrive. The weather department has predicted less rainfall in June.Delhi has its hottest night after 12 years
Delhi experienced its hottest night in 12 years on Wednesday and the minimum temperature was recorded at 35.2 degrees Celsius, which is eight degrees higher than the normal temperature of this season. The Meteorological Department gave this information. Earlier, the hottest night in Delhi was recorded in June 2012 and during that time the minimum temperature was recorded at 34 degrees Celsius. The intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday was the hottest night of this season here and the temperature was recorded at 33.8 degrees Celsius. Due to no relief from the scorching heat, the number of patients complaining of heat stroke and exhaustion is increasing in the hospitals of Delhi-NCR. Doctors have advised the elderly and patients with weak immunity not to go out of the house.

19 people died in Delhi-Noida due to heat
In the last 72 hours, 5 people have died due to extreme heat in the capital Delhi. These deaths have occurred due to heatstroke and information about these deaths has been received from three different hospitals. According to the health department of Noida, more than 14 people have died suspiciously due to heatstroke in the last 24 hours. However, the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report comes. One person each has died of heatstroke in Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital. About 36 people affected by heat are admitted in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Where is the heat wave alert?
The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert in many places including Delhi. According to the IMD, a heat wave alert has been issued for West and East UP on June 19 and 20. An orange heat wave alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Bihar. In the past 24 hours, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in most parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, many parts of Punjab, some parts of South Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, some areas of Bihar, North-East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and the Jammu division. The maximum temperature in these areas was between 44-46°C.

Monsoon’s speed is slow, now it is moving ahead again
According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon had stopped a bit after reaching Mumbai, but is now gaining momentum and is expected to advance further by June 21-22. With the advancement of monsoon, North India is expected to get relief from the scorching heat. Mumbai Meteorological Department chief Sunil Kamble said that the monsoon had weakened a bit after reaching Mumbai, but is now gradually recovering. By June 21-22, it will become stronger and there is a possibility of good rain in the coastal areas of Maharashtra. At the same time, light to moderate rain is expected in Central Maharashtra, which also includes Marathwada.

Monsoon rains in Mumbai
Some areas of Mumbai received light rain on Wednesday morning, but the heat is so intense that it did not bring much relief. The monsoon had reached Mumbai ahead of schedule on June 9, but since then its speed has slowed down. So far, there has been no rain in some areas of North Maharashtra and Vidarbha. So far in the monsoon season that started on June 1, India has received 20% less rainfall than normal, because the rain-bearing winds did not gain much speed between June 12 and 18.

Less rain increased the number of farmers
The Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that there is a possibility of less than normal rainfall in June. June and July are considered the most important monsoon months for agriculture as most of the sowing of Kharif crops is done during this time. Less rain means that sowing of crops may be affected this year.

India likely to see below normal rainfall in June
The Meteorological Department said in its forecast on Wednesday that the average rainfall across the country is likely to be below normal in June, as the progress of monsoon has slowed down. Southern states and northeastern states are likely to receive above normal rainfall in June, while northern and central states battling heat wave are likely to receive below normal rainfall. According to an IMD statement, ‘Most areas of South Peninsular India and some areas of Northeast India are likely to receive above normal monthly rainfall. Many areas of northwest and adjoining central India and some areas of Northeast India are likely to receive below normal rainfall.’ During this month, 11 sub-divisions received above normal rainfall and 25 received much below normal rainfall.

This year, the monsoon onset was two days earlier than normal over Kerala and six days earlier over Northeast India. Thereafter, the progress of the monsoon slowed down northwards and by 12 June, it had covered the entire states of Kerala, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Goa and Telangana, most parts of South Maharashtra and some parts of South Chhattisgarh, most parts of South Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and the entire Northeast states.
