Money for distributing free ravedis, but not for judges… Supreme Court scolds governments amid Delhi elections

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has made a big comment before the Delhi Assembly elections. The court has given a statement regarding the free ravedis being given by the states. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that state governments have money for pro bono schemes, but do not have money for the salaries and pensions of judges. The bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih cited the example of Maharashtra government’s ‘Laadli Brahmin Yojana’ and promises made by political parties before the Delhi elections.

Hearing on the petition of Judges Association

The remarks came during the hearing of a petition filed by the All India Judges Association. This petition was about implementing the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission. Attorney General R. Venkataramani said the government will have to consider financial constraints while fixing salaries and retirement benefits of judicial officers.

Mentioned about the promises being made in Delhi elections

The Supreme Court said, ‘States have money for those who do not do any work.’ The bench expressed concern over the announcement of free schemes during elections. The court said that state governments can spend money for free schemes, but there is no money for the salaries and pensions of judges. The Supreme Court also said that at the time of elections, parties make many free promises. But there is said to be a shortage of money for the salaries and pensions of judges. It’s a topic of concern The Supreme Court said that this issue needs to be considered seriously.

AAP and Congress have announced to donate money for Delhi elections.

This comment of the Supreme Court has come at a time when before the elections in Delhi, some political parties have promised to give money to women if they come to power. Aam Aadmi Party has announced to give Rs 2100 every month to the women of Delhi under ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’. At the same time, Congress has promised to give Rs 2500 every month to women under ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’. The Election Commission has announced the dates of Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday itself.

Supreme Court has also raised questions on the free ration scheme

In December 2024, the Supreme Court had stressed the need to create employment opportunities in place of free rave culture. During the hearing, the court asked the government a question as to when the free Revadi will be distributed. The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Manmohan expressed surprise that 81 crore people are being given free ration under the National Food Security Act. The bench said that this means that only the tax payers are left. On the petition of an NGO, the Supreme Court has raised questions on the free schemes.
