New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will review the entire gamut of bilateral ties, including in areas such as defence, investment, energy cooperation, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges, at the upcoming annual India-Russia summit, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said on Friday. At the invitation of Putin, Modi will visit Russia on a two-day official visit from July 8-9. he/she will attend the 22nd India-Russia Summit, where the full range of multifaceted ties between the two countries will be reviewed. Putin will host a private dinner for Modi on the day of his/her arrival.

Discussion on regional and global developments of mutual interest

Speaking to the media here ahead of Modi’s visit to Russia for the summit, Kwatra said the two leaders will also share their views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. Sharing details about the programme of his/her visit to Russia, Kwatra said the Prime Minister is currently scheduled to reach Moscow on July 8 afternoon. Modi’s programmes the next day will also include interaction with the Indian community in Russia. The Prime Minister will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Kremlin. he/she will then visit the Rosatom pavilion at the Exhibition Ground in Moscow.

Modi’s first visit to Russia in 5 years

This will be Modi’s first visit to Russia in nearly five years. Earlier, he/she attended an economic conference in Vladivostok in 2019. This will also be his/her first visit to Russia after the conflict in Ukraine. So far, 21 annual summits have been held between India and Russia. The last summit was held in New Delhi on 6 December 2021. Putin came to India to attend this summit. he/she said that the India-Russia summit will provide an opportunity to discuss the entire scope of bilateral relations, including defense, investment, education and culture and people-to-people relations. Kwatra said that both sides are working on documents regarding the 22nd India-Russia summit.
