Ajmer: These days, political activity is on the rise in Ajmer regarding the assembly elections in Pushkar, the city of Brahma and famous for the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The two major parties Congress and BJP have their own claims, but the biggest question is whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be able to keep this strong fort safe with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and Hindutva or the plans of the Ashok Gehlot government and the Congress. ‘Seven Guarantees’ will change the picture. For the last two decades, public opinion in Ajmer has generally been with the BJP. Despite losing power in the state in the last assembly elections, BJP was successful in winning six out of eight seats in Ajmer district.
Hindutva vs seven guarantees in Ajmer
The importance of the issue of ‘Hindutva’ among the sections traditionally considered supporters of BJP, the popularity of Prime Minister Modi and the tradition of changing the government every five years is giving considerable strength to BJP’s political ground this time too. It is true that the presence of rebels in the election fray in Ajmer North and some other seats is a challenge for it.
Gehlot started siege of the central government on the growing uproar over Lal Diary, asked 7 questions to PM Modi
This time, Congress is focusing its entire campaign on Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme, Rs 500 cylinder and some other schemes and seven election guarantees. He is trying to breach this fort of BJP through them. However, local level factionalism is a problem for him.
In Ajmer, voters supporting both the major parties openly express their opinions. Vinod Kumar Jain, a local businessman from Ajmer city, says that the voters of Ajmer, especially the urban areas, are seen with BJP on a large scale this time too.
In my opinion, the result in Ajmer city this time too will be the same as last time… the trend of changing government every five years will continue.
Vinod Kumar Jain, local businessman
Rahul Meghwal, 24, who works as a deputy manager in a hotel in Ajmer and hails from Masuda assembly constituency, believes that BJP’s position is strong in urban areas, but Congress cannot be ruled out in rural areas. The biggest reason for this is ‘Chiranjeevi’ scheme, gas cylinder of Rs 500 and seven ‘guarantees’ announced by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
I feel that the way Gehlot’s seven guarantees and other schemes are being widely publicized will prove to be decisive in deciding the results.
Rahul Meghwal
Rahul Meghwal also said, ‘Ajmer is one of the few places in Rajasthan where the issue of Hindutva also has an impact. No one may admit it openly, but the Hindu-Muslim issue also dominates the seats in urban areas.
Rajasthan: ‘Noose around the neck’ of BJP-Congress’s rebel candidates, political mathematics is sure to get worse on these 7 seats!
Mohammad Raees, a voter of Ajmer North assembly constituency and a taxi driver by profession, claims that this time there may be a change in Ajmer. He said, ‘I have felt that people have benefited from the government schemes. I know many people who have benefited greatly from health insurance plans. Rs 500 cylinder has brought relief to poor families. In such a situation, I feel that this time the results will be different in Ajmer.
The biggest strength for BJP in Ajmer is ‘Modi factor’. BJP is definitely benefiting from the popularity of the Prime Minister. Its strength increases further due to the issue of Hindutva.
Shaukat Ahmed, local journalist
Shaukat Ahmed also said that from the Congress’ point of view it is important that it focuses only on the issues of the general public. If the government’s schemes have an impact on the voters here, then the fight in Ajmer could be interesting.
BJP will not be able to mislead people in the name of ‘Hindutva’: Congress leader
Ajmer City Congress Committee President Vijay Jain said that this time BJP will not be able to mislead people in the name of ‘Hindutva’ and people will give priority to the work of the Congress government. He said that it is true that Ajmer is a stronghold of RSS. But, Congress is also established here… People have understood that BJP is a rhetorical party. People have also understood that BJP does politics only in the name of religion. Now no one is going to fall for their catchphrases.
Congress remembers Hindus only during elections: BJP
On the other hand, senior BJP leader and former minister Vasudev Devnani claimed that BJP adopts Hindutva in its life, but Congress remembers Hindus only during elections. He said, ‘We have the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the development work of the Central Government and the work done for cultural development will definitely have an impact on this election. The public will reject the appeasement of Congress.

Among the seven ‘guarantees’ announced by the Congress, there is also the ‘Guarantee’ of the Godhan Yojana, under which cow dung will be purchased from farmers at the rate of Rs 2 per kg on the lines of Chhattisgarh. He promised to provide free laptop in the first year to every student taking admission in the college, to provide English medium education to every student of the state, to provide insurance of Rs 15 lakh to every family falling victim to natural disaster, to provide relief from inflation. A ‘guarantee’ has also been given to provide domestic gas cylinders for Rs 500 to 1.05 crore families.
Congress has also guaranteed to give Rs 10,000 annually to the female head of every family under the ‘Grihalaxmi’ scheme and enact a law for OPS for government employees.
BJP had won 6 out of eight seats in Ajmer district.
There are eight assembly seats in Ajmer district, out of which seven assembly seats – Ajmer North, Beawar, Kekdi, Kishangarh, Masuda, Nasirabad and Pushkar – are unreserved, while Ajmer South seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes. On an average, there are 2.25 lakh voters in every assembly constituency. In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress could win only two seats, Masuda and Kekri. The remaining six seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Out of these, two assembly seats are Ajmer North and Ajmer South, where Bharatiya Janata Party has been winning continuously since 2003.
Voting is to be held on all 200 assembly seats of Rajasthan on November 25. Counting of votes will take place on December 3.
