Modi and Erdogan can calm Ukraine-Russia war, but Modi has more responsibility, said Fareed Zakaria

New Delhi: Foreign policy expert Fareed Zakaria has given a big statement on the Russia-Ukraine war. he/she has said that Ukraine war is a big opportunity for India. India should show its diplomatic strength by becoming a peacemaker. Praising PM Modi’s global image, Zakaria said that PM Modi can play the role of an important mediator in the Russia-Ukraine war.

‘Modi can play a big role’

Speaking to a news channel, Zakaria said that there are very few leaders in the world who can talk effectively to both Russia and Ukraine. he/she took only two names, first Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and second Prime Minister Modi. Zakaria said that the war in Ukraine has stopped. There are very few people who have the credibility to talk to both sides… If Prime Minister Modi presents himself as a mediator, I think he/she can play a very constructive role… I believe that Modi can play a greater role in this than Erdogan.

Zakaria said that mediating the Russia-Ukraine war is a great opportunity for PM Modi to become a global politician. he/she acknowledged that India traditionally remains neutral in foreign policy matters. But, if India wants, it can play a very practical and constructive role.

According to Zakaria, such a move would not only be beneficial for global diplomacy but would also raise India’s image on the international stage. However, he/she stressed that for this, PM Modi will have to play the challenging role of mediating between the two countries, which is often fraught with difficulties and criticism. Zakaria said, ‘If Modi wants, this is a great opportunity for him/her to become a global politician.’ he/she cited the Indian leader’s diplomatic skills and his/her platform as important in the quest for peace.

Good reputation in both Russia and Ukraine
