Modi 3.0 Cabinet: Dealing with Manipur is a challenge… PM Modi has put a big responsibility on Scindia’s shoulders

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all the ministers to set a 100-day agenda and work on it speedily. Jyotiraditya Scindia took charge of the DoNER Ministry (Development of North East Region), which is important from the border point of view, on Wednesday. Minister of State for the Ministry Sukanto Majumdar has taken charge on Tuesday itself. Scindia said that the way the North East has developed rapidly in the last 10 years, it will continue in the same way. Jyotiraditya Scindia said that revolutionary changes have taken place in the North-Eastern region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 10 years. The priority that PM Modi has given to this region was never given before. he/she said that work has been done here in all areas including road, rail and civil aviation. Scindia said that both of us (including Minister of State Sukanto Majumdar) take a pledge that we will work hard to fully realize the vision of the PM for the North-Eastern states. Sukanto Majumdar also mentioned the development work done in the last ten years and when asked about the Manipur Crisis, he/she said that whatever necessary steps are required to improve this situation will be taken under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Know about DoNER Ministry

DoNER Ministry is the only ministry which has territorial jurisdiction. This ministry is responsible for planning, execution and monitoring of development schemes and projects in the North East region. This becomes more important because the states of North East are also very important in terms of international borders. Arunachal Pradesh shares its border with Bhutan, China and Myanmar. Assam shares its border with Bangladesh and Bhutan. Manipur shares its border with Myanmar, Meghalaya with Bangladesh, Mizoram with Bangladesh and Myanmar, Nagaland with Myanmar, Sikkim with Bhutan, China and Nepal.

Special focus on Vibrant Village Program

The Vibrant Village Program was started in the previous government to bring development to the border villages. Many villages situated on the China border in Arunachal Pradesh have been identified as Vibrant Villages. In the first phase, some construction work has been done in the villages identified as priority. The biggest challenge before the ministry will be to bring real development to these Vibrant Villages. The people of these border villages expect a better life as well as good English medium schools and better phone and internet network. Internet connectivity is still very poor in many border areas, which will have to be worked upon. The situation in Manipur has remained tense ever since ethnic violence started between two communities. Normalizing the situation there and winning the trust of the people and restarting development work will also be a challenge for the ministry.
