On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech

The rally was organised to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. The rally started from Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral house at Simla Marg in Kolkata Central and ended at Shyambazar Five Point Crossing.

‘In the same city, people are constantly being wounded by the sting of conscience’

The organizers of this program say that this rally was called to remember the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. Since on 11 September 1893 Swami Vivekananda awakened consciousness in the whole world in Chicago, America, but today, 131 years later in his/her own city, Kolkata, people are constantly getting hurt by the sting of conscience. The incident of rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Hospital has shaken the humanity of the whole society. Therefore, as a protest, they organized this program on the day of the Chicago speech. People have thanked even an ailing star like Mithun Chakraborty for joining this rally.

‘I am happy to see this Bengal’

Mithun Chakraborty told reporters, ‘This protest should not stop. Bengal is known for its revolutionary history and fight against oppression. I am happy to see this Bengal, which has now woken up against the oppression and corruption of the current regime. A mass movement has started. This is a spontaneous mass movement.’
