‘Missing Ladies’ in the Oscar race, Kiran Rao’s Desi Kahani wins the list of 29 films

Kiran Rao’s film ‘Laapta Ladies’ has joined the race for Oscars 2025. The Film Federation has announced on Monday, 23 September morning that this film made under the banner of Jio Studios and Aamir Khan Productions will represent the country at the Academy Awards. The Federation had received a list of 29 films this year, out of which ‘Laapta Ladies’, a story born from the local soil, has won. The Film Federation of India (FFI) on Monday announced the name of ‘Laapta Ladies’ for Oscars 2025. During this, it was told that apart from ‘Laapta Ladies’, ‘Tangallan’, ‘Vaazhai’, ‘Ullozhukku’ and ‘Srikanth’ were at the forefront in the race. Film Federation of India President Ravi Kottarakara finally announced the name of Kiran Rao’s film. The jury of the Federation was Jahnu Barua.

‘Laapata Ladies’ also beat ‘Animal’ and ‘Sam Bahadur’

The Film Federation received entries for 29 films for inclusion in the ‘Oscars’. These included Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’, Kartik Aryan’s ‘Chandu Champion’, Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, Malayalam film ‘Aatam’, Rajkumar Rao’s ‘Srikanth’, ‘Hanu-Man’, ‘Sam Bahadur’, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’, ‘Good Luck’, ‘Gharat Ganpati’, ‘Maidan’, ‘Joram’, ‘Kottukaali’, ‘Jama’, ‘Article 370’, ‘Aattam’, ‘Aadujeevitham’ and ‘All We Imagine is Light’.

Last year was also great for India

Last year, Jude Anthony Joseph’s film ‘2018’ found a place in the shortlist of the 96th Academy Awards. While before this, India’s performance was excellent for the 95th time. The song ‘Natu Natu’ from SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR’ won the Oscar for Best Original Score. While Karthiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s documentary ‘The Elephant Whispers’ won the Best Documentary Award. Shaunak Sen’s ‘All That Breathes’ also won the award for Best Documentary Feature Film.

‘Lagaan’ was lost

The last Indian feature film to make it to the shortlist was Aamir Khan-Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lagaan’ (2001), which lost to ‘No Man’s Land’ at the 74th Academy Awards. You can watch Jio Studios’ ‘Missing Ladies’ on Netflix.
