New Delhi : Referring to the Indo-Pacific region, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has said that India’s efforts for maritime cooperation are continuing. India’s interests are not in conflict with those of any other country. The interests of any nation should not conflict with those of other nations. It is in this spirit that we should work together. Rajnath Singh was addressing the India-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) 2024 in New Delhi on Friday.

Emphasis on rules-based international order

The Defense Minister emphasized that true progress can be achieved only through collective action and synergy. Due to these efforts, India is now seen as a reliable and preferred security partner and first responder in the region. Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s unwavering resolve to adhere to the rules-based international order, respect for international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

support peaceful resolution of disputes

Rajnath said that India has consistently supported peaceful resolution of disputes. Promotes cooperation among countries in the Indo-Pacific region while emphasizing the centrality of ASEAN in promoting regional dialogue, stability and collective development. The Defense Minister said that the rapidly evolving global maritime landscape is being determined by changing power equations, resource competition and emerging security threats. he/she said, “The Indo-Pacific region has emerged as the most dynamic geopolitical region in the world. It is the center of economic and strategic interests.

There is also a degree of pre-existing international tension, rivalry and conflict. While some challenges are local in nature, many have global implications. In the context of marine resources, we are seeing a significant increase in geopolitical competition. As the population continues to grow, the demand for marine resources also increases, increasing tensions and competition between countries.”

Changing from industrial to technological world

Rajnath Singh said, ‘Evidence of this tragedy is already visible, including environmental degradation, over-exploitation of certain resources and rising geopolitical tensions. We have been witnessing local incidents of conflict and broader undercurrents of international tension in recent years. As the world transitions from an industrial to a technological world, moving from a fossil fuel-based economy to renewable energy, this threat will only increase unless we take preemptive action to control the potential damage. .

Example of ancient Indian philosophy

The Defense Minister expressed concern over some efforts to monopolize and weaponize vital resources for strategic reasons. These trends were described as adverse to global well-being. he/she underlined peaceful coexistence and harmony among nations, and cited the ancient Indian philosophy of symbiotic existence of mankind in harmony with nature as a way forward in exploration and management of marine resources.

Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi stressed the relevance of maritime areas, especially the Indo-Pacific region, for India’s economic development and security. he/she emphasized that India’s maritime policy SAGAR envisages collective prosperity and security for all in the region. he/she talked about partnership and cooperation as the key means to achieve this goal.
