Mention of emergency could have been avoided… What did Rahul Gandhi say in his/her first meeting with Om Birla?

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met Speaker Om Birla on Thursday and objected to his/her mention of Emergency inside the House, saying that the move was political and could have been avoided. Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal told reporters after the meeting in Parliament House that it was a courtesy meeting, during which Gandhi also raised the issue of the Speaker’s mention of Emergency in the House.

he/she said it was a courtesy meeting. The Lok Sabha speaker declared Rahul Gandhi as the leader of the opposition. After that Rahul Gandhi met the speaker along with the leaders of the alliance partners. When asked whether Rahul Gandhi discussed the issue of bringing a resolution condemning the Emergency in the House, Venugopal said we discussed many things about the functioning of the Parliament. Certainly this issue also came up.

The Congress leader said that Rahul Gandhi, as the leader of the opposition, informed the Speaker about the issue and said that it could have been avoided from the Speaker’s side. It was clearly a political context, it could have been avoided. This was Rahul Gandhi’s first meeting with the Speaker after taking over as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by SP’s Dharmendra Yadav, DMK’s Kanimozhi, Nationalist Congress Party (SP)’s Supriya Sule and Trinamool Congress’ Kalyan Banerjee, among others.
