Meeting does not mean that… Questions were raised on Ganesh Puja with PM Modi, now CJI Chandrachud gave the answer.

New Delhi: Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has said that whenever the head of the government meets the Chief Justice, he/she shows political maturity and there is never any discussion about pending cases. he/she said that whether it is the head of the state or the head of the central government, whenever the Chief Justice of the High Court or the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court meets him/her, they maintain political maturity and never talk about pending cases. it occurs. Such meetings keep happening but it does not mean that any deal is made. On the occasion of the lecture organized at Mumbai University, Chief Justice Chandrachud said that we have to talk to the Chief Ministers of the states because the budget for the judiciary. The allocation is made by the state government, this budget is not for judges. If we do not meet them and only correspond, the work will not be done. But whenever we meet, please believe that there is serious maturity in the political system and my experience is that pending cases are never discussed in such meetings.

The Chief Justice said that the same thing is applicable at the central level also. Recently, on the occasion of Ganesh Puja at the residence of the Chief Justice, the Prime Minister had gone to attend the puja, the video of which was widely discussed when it surfaced on social media.

‘Administrative work is completely different’
The Chief Justice said that administrative work is completely different from the judicial work that judges do in courts. The administrative relationship between the court and the government is completely different from judicial work. The Chief Justice said that the same thing applies at the level of the central government. It is a traditional way that the CM or Chief Justice keeps meeting, all this happens on festivals and other occasions but it is certain that there is a maturity in the meeting. It has to be understood that discussions go on in connection with work but these discussions do not take place in the judicial work of judges.

‘The workload on judges is too much’
On judges’ holidays, the Chief Justice said that the Judiciary is criticized for taking too many holidays. he/she said that he/she starts his/her daily work at 3.30 in the night and people have to understand that judges have a huge workload. he/she often thinks a lot about law because judgments impact the future of society. In America, the Supreme Court gives an average decision in 181 cases in a year and the Indian Supreme Court disposes of 181 cases on Monday itself and gives decision in 50 thousand cases in a year.

CJI spoke on collegium system
On the Collegium system, the Chief Justice said that we can say that I do not have a single proposal pending. As soon as any proposal has come or comes, we have been forwarding it to the government within a week. In the collegium system, both the government and the courts at the state and central government levels take decisions on the issue of judgeship. There are continuous talks on this issue between the Judiciary and the Government. Many times a consensus is not reached and this conversation also requires serious maturity.
