Maruti Multi-Purpose Vehicle: Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it will introduce a new premium MPV in the Indian market. This new model will be based on the Toyota Innova Highcross and will be available for sale by July 2023. In a regulatory filing last year, Toyota said it was preparing to launch a C-MPV in the financial year 2022-2023, which will also be shared with ally Maruti Suzuki. Recently, Maruti Suzuki management confirmed that they will be sourcing a vehicle from Toyota. RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki, said that it will be a strong hybrid, three-row, top-of-the-line vehicle in terms of price. In a way, it will be based on carbon-friendly hybrid technology. It will come in about two months.

Features of Maruti Premium MPV

Since the inception of the Toyota-Suzuki alliance in 2017, Suzuki-built vehicles such as the now-discontinued Vitara Brezza and Baleno have been cross-badged and sold as the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Glanza (or Starlet in South Africa) in India. Currently the latest generation Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga and even the Celerio are sold as Toyota additions in some markets including South Africa and the Middle East. This upcoming premium MPV on the other hand will be the first Toyota product to be rebadged for Maruti Suzuki in India and sold through Nexa dealership edition as its flagship model. In Europe two Toyota models, the RAV-4 and Corolla Wagon, are sold as Suzuki’s offerings, the A-Cross and Swas, respectively.

What will be different in Maruti premium MPV?

The new Maruti MPV will be based on the Toyota TNGA-C architecture. It is expected to get the same naturally aspirated petrol and strong hybrid petrol engines that can be seen on the Innova Highcross. Like the other cross-badged products from the alliance, we expect the Maruti edition of the Innova Highcross to see some different styling, mainly up front with a grille, and a different bumper and headlamp design. Some more styling tweaks at the rear could include a unique tail-lamp design with Nexa theme which is currently seen on the Grand Vitara, Baleno and Forks.
