Manmohan’s clarification on Muslims, did it strengthen BJP’s claim, Inside Story

New Delhi: The issue of Muslim reservation remained hot in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself raised this issue. he/she surrounded the opposition party Congress by referring to a statement made by former PM Manmohan Singh in 2006. During the election campaign, PM Modi, while addressing a rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, accused Manmohan Singh that while being the Prime Minister, he/she had said that Muslims have the first right on the resources of the country. Congress had raised questions on that comment of PM Modi. However, Manmohan Singh broke his/her silence on this on May 30, that too when the final round of voting of the Lok Sabha elections was going to take place. Former PM Manmohan Singh clarified the whole matter in a way. he/she said that I have never separated one community from another in my life.

Manmohan Singh said this just before the last phase of voting in the Lok Sabha elections. he/she released a letter on May 30. In this, he/she alleged that Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister who has reduced the seriousness of public dialogue and the post of Prime Minister. In the past, no Prime Minister has used such hateful, unparliamentary words to target a particular section of society or the opposition. Manmohan Singh said that during the election campaign, PM Modi has given the most hateful and malicious speeches, which are completely divisive in nature.

In this letter, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also reacted to the allegations leveled against him/her regarding Muslim reservation. Counter-attacking PM Modi, Manmohan Singh said, ‘No Prime Minister in the past has used such hateful, unparliamentary and uncivilized words with the aim of targeting a particular section of the society or the opposition. he/she has also made some wrong statements for me. I have never in my life differentiated one community from another. BJP has the sole copyright on this.’

Along with this, the former Prime Minister also denied that he/she had ever talked about giving special facilities to any community. Manmohan Singh wrote a three-page letter to the voters of Punjab on Thursday. In this, he/she said that I am closely monitoring the political discussions during this election campaign. Modi ji has given the most hate-filled speeches, which are completely divisive. he/she said that ‘the people of India are watching all this. This story of dehumanization has now reached its peak. Now it is our duty to save our beloved nation from these divisive forces.’

Manmohan Singh further said that I appeal to all of you to give us a chance to establish love, peace, brotherhood and harmony in India. I appeal to every voter of Punjab to vote for development and inclusive progress. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may have tried to clarify his/her stand through the letter. However, his/her clarification before the final round of voting is raising many questions. Somewhere this development has strengthened the claims made by the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
