Manik Saha Tripura CM: The day of Holi is going to be special for the BJP after the resounding victory in the three northeastern states. Manik Saha will take oath as the Chief Minister of Tripura today. PM Modi will also attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Earlier, Neiphiu Rio in the northeastern state of Nagaland and Conrad Sangma in Meghalaya took charge on Tuesday. Sangma has become CM for the second time in a row while Rio records for the fifth time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present at the swearing-in ceremony held in the capitals of both the states.
The swearing-in ceremony of the Sangma government took place in Shillong at 11 am and then the Rio government took place in Kohima at around quarter to two in the afternoon. Two deputy chief ministers have been appointed in both the states.
A coalition government of the National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP has assumed power in Nagaland, while the National People’s Party (NPP), UDP, HSPDP and the BJP have formed a government in Meghalaya.
Sangma Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the second time in a row
Meanwhile, in Shillong, Sangma took oath as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the second consecutive term. Along with Sangma, 11 MLAs took oath as ministers. NPP’s Prestone Tynsong and Sniabhlang Dhar were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers. Tynsong was also the deputy chief minister in the previous government. BJP’s Alexander Lalu Hek, UDP’s Pal Ligdoh and Kirmen Shyla, HSPDP’s Shaklier Varjari were also among those who took oath as ministers.
The cabinet includes eight legislators from the NPP, two from the United Democratic Party (UDP), one each from the BJP and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP). All of them were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Fagu Chauhan. The NPP emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections winning 26 seats. Apart from 11 MLAs from UDP, two each from BJP, HSPDP, PDF, two independent MLAs have also extended their support to Sangma.
