About 12 crore pilgrims came to the Mahakumbh of 2013. This time this figure may also be crossed. This time it is estimated that 40 crore people will come. As many as 50 lakh pilgrims, including sadhus, are planning to stay in camps during the entire Maha Kumbh. Mahakumbh will start from 13th January and continue till 26th February. During this period, management and treatment of the waste generated every day is a big challenge in itself. To deal with this challenge, agencies like ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) to BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) have also entered the field. English website Indian Express has quoted sources in its report that during this The technology developed by ISRO and BARC will be used for disposal and treatment of the generated waste. Authorities are using modern technologies to deal with human waste, especially excreta and waste water generated from cooking, washing utensils, etc.

Rs 1600 crore will be spent on waste management and treatment in Maha Kumbh Mela.
Yogi Adityanath-led UP government is spending Rs 7,000 crore on the Maha Kumbh Mela this year. Of this, Rs 1,600 crore has been kept only for water and waste management. Of this, Rs 316 crore will also be spent on making the fair area open defecation free (ODF), which includes installation of toilets and urinals and their monitoring.

Yogi government has declared the fair area as the 76th district of UP for better management of Mahakumbh. The fair ground is divided into 25 sectors. Mauni Amavasya bath is on 29th January. Officials expect around 50 lakh pilgrims to take a dip of faith in the Mahakumbh on that day. Officials say that these people are likely to generate around 16 million liters of sewage and around 240 million liters of dirty water every day.

Modern technologies are also being used for waste treatment. According to the report of Indian Express, technologies like Hybrid Granular Sequencing Batch Reactor (hgSBR) are being used in the treatment of waste. This technology has been developed in partnership with BARC and ISRO.
