The Madhya Pradesh Weather is changing rapidly. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a high chance of rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the state within the next 24 hours. However, after this short relief, intense heat and heatwave conditions are expected to follow.
Storm and Rain Alert for 11 Districts
The IMD has issued an alert for thunder and rain in 11 districts, especially under the Rewa and Shahdol divisions. These districts may experience strong winds up to 30–40 km/h along with rainfall and sudden weather changes.
The affected districts include:
- Rewa
- Satna
- Mauganj
- Sidhi
- Singrauli
- Panna
- Maihar
- Katni
- Umaria
- Shahdol
- Anuppur
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and avoid stepping out during extreme weather.
Heatwave from April 16
From Tuesday, April 16, heatwave conditions will start affecting some regions of Madhya Pradesh. The Gwalior, Chambal, and Indore divisions are expected to face the highest temperatures, possibly reaching up to 42°C.
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for the following districts:
- Mandsaur
- Neemuch
- Ratlam
- Guna
- Sheopur
- Shivpuri
People in these areas should avoid heat exposure, stay hydrated, and take all necessary precautions.
Why is the Weather Changing?
The sudden shift in weather is mainly due to an active western disturbance near Kashmir. This weather system is causing storms and rainfall now, but starting April 16, another strong disturbance in the Himalayan region will increase temperatures sharply. This will lead to a period of severe heat and dry winds (loo), especially in central and northern Madhya Pradesh.

Some districts have already seen major changes:
- Heavy rain and hailstorm in Khargone (Maheshwar)
- Strong winds and rain in Satna
- Wind speeds up to 60 km/h in Ashoknagar and Singrauli
