Made West Indies cry, PNG captain said- if we had scored 10-15 more runs then…

Georgetown. Playing their first match of the T20 World Cup at home, host West Indies had to sweat to get their first win. Underrated Papua New Guinea played such a great game that it increased the excitement of this tournament. Two-time champion West Indies captain Rovman Powell praised Papua New Guinea (PNG) after the T20 World Cup match on Sunday and said that they played very good cricket.

Batting first against West Indies, PNG scored 136 runs for 8 wickets. Chasing the target, the host team won in the 19th over. In the match, the opposing team put the Windies batsmen to a tough test with their bowling. The match had come very close. The West Indies captain also praised PNG’s efforts.

West Indies had to struggle to register a five-wicket win in which Roston Chase (42 not out) and Andre Russell (15 not out) played important roles. Powell said after the match, “Credit for this performance should go to PNG. Their plan was simple and they played good cricket.”

PNG captain Assad Vala, who is playing his/her second T20 World Cup, said, “I am proud of my team’s effort. It was a competitive score but it would have been better if 10 to 15 more runs had been scored. We put pressure on them, we are happy with that.”

PNG’s team has been placed in Group C in this T20 World Cup along with West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand and Uganda. West Indies’ team is at number four in the current T20 rankings. PNG’s team is at the bottom at number 20. Despite this, this team showed a very good game.
