Made India world champion in 4 balls…where is that unsung hero today?


New Delhi. Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Joginder Sharma became a hero from one match. The Indian team under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni had captured the T20 World Cup in the year 2007. In the final against Pakistan, Joginder bowled brilliantly in the last over and gave the team a historic victory. Joginder became a hero with this one match. Joginder proved his/her captain Dhoni’s decision right by defending 13 runs in the last over. However, after this this bowler did not get a chance in Team India again. And this hero became anonymous.

Joginder Sharma was born on 23 October 1983 in Rohtak district of Haryana. 24 September 2007 is historic for Indian cricket. The teams of India and Pakistan were face to face in the T20 World Cup final in South Africa. Pakistan needed 13 runs in the last over to win. Dhoni looked at Joginder and asked him/her to bowl the last over. Joginder also came forward and took the ball. his/her first ball was wide. Came back on the next ball and no runs were scored on it. Misbah-ul-Haq hit a tremendous six on the second ball. After this the Indian fans were left breathless. From here Pakistan needed 6 runs to win while the Indian team needed one wicket. Joginder bowled the next ball full length and Misbah tried to play a scoop shot over short fine leg but he/she failed and was caught by fielder S Sreesanth. After this, the happiness of the Indian team was visible.

Joginder Sharma is DSP in Haryana Police
When Joginder returned home after becoming world champion, he/she got the job of DSP in Haryana Police. Presently also working in police department. However, after this Joginder tried hard to make a comeback in Team India but failed. In 2011, Joginder was badly injured in a road accident. he/she suffered a deep head injury. After recovery, the doctor forbade Joginder from playing cricket. Despite this, he/she did not give up and returned to domestic cricket.

Joginder regrets not returning
Joginder Sharma wanted to make a comeback in Team India but it could not happen. he/she recently said in an interview that this regret will remain with him/her throughout his/her life. Joginder played 4 ODI and 4 T20 International matches. he/she has taken one wicket in ODI and 4 wickets in T20. he/she retired from cricket on 3 February 2023.
