Lover of cricket, but did not google lawyers… bid farewell to Supreme Court Justice Ravi like this

New Delhi: Born in a Dalit family in Peermed village in Idukki district of Kerala, C T Ravikumar decided to study law after completing his/her graduation in zoology. After this he/she made a four decade long career. Due to his/her hard work and ability, he/she won the hearts of people inside and outside the courts. he/she was appointed judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Ravi is retiring on January 5. On Friday, he/she sat in a formal farewell bench along with CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar.

CJI praised him/her profusely

Attorney General R Venkataramani read a poem in his/her honour. Through this poem, Justice Ravi’s simple behavior and strong thoughts were praised. CJI Khanna said that the poem has completely depicted the personality of Justice Ravikumar. “he/she is from ‘God’s Own Country’ and is beloved by all, both on the bar and the bench,” he/she said. he/she is a noble person who has won everyone’s heart with his/her human qualities.

The CJI said, ‘his/her love for cricket and nature is well known. he/she does not come from cities and towns like many of us, but from a rural background, where access to better facilities is limited. Reaching the Supreme Court as a judge is an achievement in itself.

‘Lawyers wished good luck for the second innings’

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that Justice Ravikumar is an epitome of simplicity and he/she never showed the arrogance of a judge. SCBA President Kapil Sibal said that although Justice Ravi was a cricket lover, he/she never googled the lawyers. Referring to his/her love for cricket, SCoARA President Vipin Nair said that his/her first innings was excellent and wished him/her all the best for the second innings.

‘I never lost the feeling of being a lawyer’

Justice Ravikumar said, ‘Even after being appointed as a High Court judge and then as a Supreme Court judge, one thing that has never left me is the feeling of being a lawyer. I am from there and that is why I respect all the lawyers. he/she said, traditionally, Indians bat well in the second innings, I want to bat well in my second innings (post-retirement career).

Justice Ravi started practicing law in the district courts of Mavelikara in 1986. In 1996, he/she started practice in the Kerala High Court and was appointed a judge of the High Court on 5 January 2009. he/she took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court on 31 August 2021 and his/her tenure was three years and four months.
