Lok Sabha Speaker Birla led the Indian parliamentary delegation in Geneva, know what he/she said

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is leading the Indian parliamentary delegation to the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, addressed the gathering on the theme “Using science, technology and innovation for a peaceful and secure future”. Highlighting some of the important global challenges of the present time, he/she clearly presented India’s perspective on it.

Emphasis on science, technology and innovation

Emphasizing that India has always been a strong supporter of multilateralism, Lok Sabha Speaker Birla said that broader dialogue and cooperation between parliaments in the field of science, technology and innovation is extremely essential for human welfare. he/she expressed hope that through a platform like IPU, Parliaments will be successful in paving the way for inclusive development for the entire world through common action plans and joint efforts. he/she stressed that all parliaments of the world should work together to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the benefits of science, technology and innovation.

What did Birla say about climate change?

Regarding climate change and energy security, Birla mentioned the “One Sun, One World, One Grid” (OSOWOG) initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. he/she said that India’s renewable energy capacity has increased from 76 GW to 203 GW in the last decade. he/she also talked about initiatives like Green Hydrogen Mission, International Solar Alliance, Biofuel Alliance etc. which underline India’s commitment towards addressing climate change.

‘India is the third largest startup nation in the world’

he/she informed that today India has become the third largest startup nation in the world with 118 unicorns valued at more than US$ 355 billion. he/she also informed that the Digital Parliament application in the Parliament of India has not only made the Parliament paperless but has also increased the efficiency of the Parliament through the use of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This brings together all members, all Ministries of the Government of India and all stakeholders on a unified platform.
