Lok Sabha session begins tomorrow, chances of confrontation in Parliament from the very beginning, test for both ruling and opposition parties

New Delhi: The first parliamentary session of the 18th Lok Sabha is going to start from June 24. With this, the possibility of conflict in both the houses of Parliament has also started to appear. In this session, on one hand, the government’s priority is to elect a new Lok Sabha speaker, swearing-in of members, joint address by the President to both the houses of Parliament and a motion of thanks discussion on it. On the other hand, the opposition has started making it clear through its sharp attitude that it is in no mood to make any concessions with the government on issues related to public interest. This time the opposition also seems strong in terms of numbers in the lower house. While the number of ruling NDA in the house is 293, the strength of the opposition camp is 232. In such a situation, in terms of numbers, the opposition is also not far behind the government this time.

Conflict situation regarding pro tem speaker

The confrontation in the session started with the appointment of the Protem Speaker (temporary Speaker). In the coming days, the biggest issue in the House is going to be the matter related to the NEET exam. Congress has already made it clear that it will raise this issue loudly. Party leader Rahul Gandhi has talked to the students and promised them that he/she will get them justice in this matter. Congress is also demanding an investigation into this matter. On the other hand, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to PM Modi regarding three criminal laws, in which she has appealed to postpone the implementation of three new criminal laws passed in a hurry. These three laws are to come into force from July 1. Mamata has talked about insisting on a fresh parliamentary review of these laws. Apart from this, the opposition is planning to surround the government on matters like increasing cases of paper leak in the country, the latest situation in Manipur, rail accidents, arson in the gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat.

Lok Sabha Speaker election on June 26

In the session, the pro tem speaker will administer oath to all the elected MPs of Lok Sabha on 24 and 25 June. While the Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected on 26 June. This time the House will get a Deputy Speaker along with the Speaker in the Lok Sabha. There was no Deputy Speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha. There is a discussion that this time the opposition may get this post. On 27 June, President Draupadi Murmu will jointly address both the houses, in which she can outline the priorities of the government for the next five years while mentioning the achievements of the Modi government in 10 years. After that, both the houses of Parliament will discuss the motion of thanks on the President’s address, at the end of which PM Modi will reply in both the houses.

Opposition unity also tested

If the upcoming session is going to be a test for the NDA government, it will also be a test of opposition unity. It remains to be seen how much parties like TMC and AAP are able to join the opposition voices in the House on important issues. Despite being a part of India, Mamata Banerjee has been seen standing apart. On the other hand, after the elections, AAP revealed its mutual coordination with Congress in Haryana, Gujarat including Delhi. In such a situation, it remains to be seen in Parliament when and how these two parties cooperate in taking the opposition politics forward.
