What are the preparations regarding Remal?

The Indian Coast Guard has made preparations to deal with the cyclonic storm. Nine disaster relief teams have been deployed to minimize possible loss of life and property at sea. NDRF has deployed 12 teams and five additional teams have been kept on standby. Along with ships and planes, rescue and relief teams from the Army and Navy are also ready. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy rainfall due to this cyclonic storm in the coastal districts of West Bengal and North Odisha on 26 and 27 May.
How dangerous will Remal be, even flying will be affected
The Meteorological Department office has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal and North Odisha on May 26-27. A storm surge of up to 1.5 meters is expected in coastal West Bengal and low-lying areas of Bangladesh when the storm hits the coast. Kolkata airport authorities have imposed a storm surge of up to 1.5 meters for 21 hours from Sunday afternoon in view of the possible impact of Cyclonic Storm Remal. It has been decided to suspend flight operations. An officer gave this information. The precautionary measure has been taken following a meeting of stakeholders of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport on Saturday.

NSCBI airport director C Pattabhi said in a statement, ‘A meeting was held with stakeholders in view of the impact of Cyclone Ramal in the coastal areas of West Bengal including Kolkata and the possibility of strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in Kolkata. Due to this, it has been decided to suspend flight operations from 12 noon on May 26 to 9 am on May 27. ,
