Dausa:Taking major action, the Excise Department of Dausa district has seized English liquor worth lakhs of rupees. On Tuesday night, when the Excise Department team stopped a UP number truck and checked it at Dhanawad Rest Area in Dausa district, it was found to be loaded with Punjab made liquor which was being illegally transported to Gujarat. This is the first major action on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in which 785 boxes of English liquor have been recovered by the Excise Department.
Excise Police CI Mahendra Singh said that the department had received information from an informer that a truck with UP number was going towards Dausa via Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. As soon as the information was received, the team of Excise Petroleum Officer Meghraj Sharma and Phulera PO Mahendra Singh stopped the truck and carried out this entire action. During this time, seeing the Excise Department team, the driver and helper of the truck fled from the spot. Smugglers have discovered this new route to transport illegal liquor being brought from Haryana and Punjab to Gujarat.
According to the Excise Police, keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections, smugglers have created this new route for smuggling of liquor. Because after boarding the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, there is usually no stopping by the police, transport and excise departments, due to which liquor smugglers have started using this route as a smuggling route. However, the action taken last night has ruined the plans of liquor smugglers.
Due to prohibition in Gujarat, the network of illicit liquor smuggling from Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh has spread to Gujarat via Rajasthan. Every year, hundreds of trucks filled with illicit liquor cross Gujarat right under the nose of the Excise Department and the police. The biggest reason for this is that the price of liquor produced in Haryana and Punjab is much lower than that of Rajasthan. In such a situation, liquor smugglers are earning profits on a large scale.
