Lilliput started considering himself ‘unfortunate’ for Amitabh Bachchan, said- don’t act with me

Actor MM Farooqui, popularly known as Lilliput, has been a part of the film industry for the last four decades and has seen many ups and downs in his/her career. Lilliput tried hard to work in films with megastar Amitabh Bachchan but failed every time. Finally, Lilliput worked with Amitabh Bachchan in the film ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. Because of this, Lilliput started considering himself unlucky. In an interview given to ‘Bollywood Thikana’, Lilliput told how many times he/she tried to work with Amitabh Bachchan and how those films could not be made due to one reason or the other.

This is how I got my first film with Amitabh, but it couldn’t be made

Lilliput said, ‘I was playing cards when I got a call from Subhash Ghai. he/she asked me to meet him/her in his/her office. I did not have money to go to Bandra, so one of the people with whom I was playing cards took me there. Subhash ji told me that I am making a film ‘Sher Bahadur’, and Amitabh Bachchan will be the hero in it and you will be the villain.’

She left the films she had signed earlier for Amitabh’s film

Lilliput further said that at that time he/she was doing films like ‘Shagird’, ‘Ameer Aadmi’ and ‘Shararat’. Apart from these, he/she had also signed some other films. But Subhash Ghai asked Lilliput to leave those films so that he/she does not have any onscreen image before ‘Sher Bahadur’. Lilliput said, ‘What was my status? How could I ask those people who had shot the film not to release it? Will you loosen my shoe? I left all the films that I had signed for ‘Sher Bahadur’. But ‘Sher Bahadur’ was stopped and I was left with no work. Amit ji’s health was not good and the film was not made.’

Told Amitabh- don’t act with me

Lilliput was then supposed to work with Amitabh Bachchan in another film ‘Ashiana’, but that film too never got made for some reason. This confused Lilliput and he/she told Amitabh Bachchan not to try acting with him/her. But many years later, director Shaad Ali approached him/her for the film ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, and told him/her that Amitabh Bachchan was also in the film.

‘I am wretched’

Knowing this, Lilliput said to Shad Ali, ‘I am unlucky. My film with Amit ji is not being made and your film will also not be made.’ But Shad Ali told the actor that he/she does not believe in such superstitions and made the film. The film became a superhit and earned a lot. But Lilliput regretted that he/she could not work with Amitabh Bachchan in his/her youth. Otherwise, he/she would have been at a different stage in his/her career today. Then ending the conversation, he/she said – where is the point now, we both have grown old now.
