New Delhi. Nitish Kumar Reddy started his/her Test career against Australia in Perth. At the end of the first day’s play, he/she said that he/she was nervous before his/her debut. But an advice from Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir boosted his/her morale. Nitish told that Gambhir had told him/her to face bouncer balls as if ‘you are taking a bullet for the country’. Nitish played a courageous inning of 41 runs in 59 balls and helped the team score to 150 runs at the Optus Stadium. he/she presented an important partnership of 48 runs with Rishabh Pant (27).

Nitish Reddy said in the press conference after the match, ‘I have heard a lot about the Perth wicket (pitch). There was a little nervousness before batting. What I had in my mind was that everyone was talking about the bounce on the Perth wicket. However, I remembered the conversation I had with Gautam Sir (Gautam Gambhir) after our last practice session. he/she was saying that ‘You have to face the bouncer in the same way as if you are taking a bullet for the country.’ This thing from the coach boosted my morale. When he/she said this, I felt that I needed to take a bullet for the country. This is the best thing I have heard from Gautam Sir.

‘On the eve of the match I came to know that I am debuting the next day’
This 21-year-old player told that he/she was informed about his/her debut on the eve of the opening Test match. Nitish said, ‘We (he/she and fast bowler Harshit Rana) came to know about our debut a day before and we were excited. We were calm and were following the same routine as we were doing last week. We did not want to take too much pressure. We also cycled yesterday evening, so it was good. Nitish was extremely surprised when star batsman and his/her idol Virat Kohli handed him/her the ‘Test Cap’ in the morning.

‘It was great to get the debut cap from my idol Virat Bhai’
he/she said, ‘It was a great feeling (getting the cap from Kohli). I have always dreamed of playing for India and this was a great moment. When I started playing cricket, Virat bhai was my idol. So it was a happy moment for me to get my debut cap from him/her. Nitish admitted that playing for India A in Melbourne recently helped him/her understand the Australian conditions. According to Nitish, ‘It was a good start, not a dream innings but a good start. To be honest, the India A series helped me a lot because it was my first experience of playing in Australia. The pitches here are quite different compared to India. Here the ball gets a lot of bounce. I felt there was more help for the bowlers here (compared to MCG).
