Light Weight Torpedo: China’s tension increased, India is buying MK-54 Lightweight Torpedo from America, know its features

New Delhi: Indian Navy is counted among the top 10 navies of the world. Now its importance is going to increase further. Actually, India is going to buy 53 MK-54 lightweight torpedoes from America. Whose price is 175 million dollars. These torpedoes are for India’s new MH-60R Seahawk helicopters. The Biden administration says that this deal will strengthen the relations between the two countries. This will also improve India’s security.

Navy’s strength will increase

America says that India is important for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. India’s navy will become stronger with the new torpedoes. They will be able to deal with threats from submarines. India inducted six MH-60R Seahawk helicopters in March. These helicopters are equipped with Hellfire missiles, MK-54 torpedoes and precision-kill rockets. India will get 24 more Seahawks by next year. All these helicopters are part of the Rs 15,157 crore deal signed in February 2020.

Seahawk helicopters are quite modern. They also have multi-mode radar and night-vision equipment. These helicopters can be operated from warships. Navy officials say the Seahawks are capable of detecting and destroying enemy submarines. This deal reflects the growing defense cooperation between India and the US. Both countries are concerned about China’s increasing military activities in the Indian Ocean region. MK-54 Torpedoes will give a strong edge to the Indian Navy.
