Air pollution is becoming a serious problem in Delhi-NCR, especially in winter when the level of dust, smoke and harmful gases in the air increases. After Diwali the situation has worsened further. Due to the smoke of firecrackers, the amount of harmful elements like particulate matter, nitrogen and sulfur dioxide present in the air increases, which can prove to be extremely dangerous for health.

This is a time to be especially cautious for children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma or heart disease. The air quality in many areas of Delhi has crossed 400, which indicates a very serious situation. In such a polluted environment, it has become difficult for people to go out of the house, because it is becoming difficult to breathe the outside air. Due to continuously increasing pollution, people are facing problems like shortness of breath, eye irritation and fatigue, due to which normal life is also being affected.

In view of this dangerous level of pollution in Delhi, it is extremely important to adopt precautions.

Respiratory diseases: Micro particles present in the air reach the lungs and cause difficulty in breathing, which increases the risk of problems like asthma, bronchitis.

Breathing polluted air also affects the heart. Toxic elements present in the air can cause swelling and clots in the blood vessels, which increases the chances of heart attack.

Polluted air contains gases like nitrogen and sulfur, which can cause irritation, itching and redness in the eyes. Prolonged exposure to pollution can also weaken the immune system, which reduces the strength to fight common diseases.

According to Dr. PN Arora, some precautions are necessary to avoid serious effects of pollution.
Use of mask: While going out, use a mask like N-95, which helps in preventing microscopic particles present in the air from entering the body.
Avoid outdoor exercise: Avoid physical activities outside, especially in the morning and evening, as pollution levels are higher during these times.
Keep indoor air pure: Use air purifiers at home and do regular cleaning to reduce dust and allergens.

To increase immunity power, consume fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C and E, which help the body fight harmful elements. To detoxify the body, drink sufficient amount of water throughout the day, so that toxic elements can come out of the body.
