Where can I buy SGB?

Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2022-23 through commercial banks (Small Finance Banks, Payment Banks and Regional Rural Banks), Stock Holding Corporation of India (SHCIL), Clear Corporation of India Limited (CCIL), some post offices and stock exchanges- NSE and BSE Can buy from. On behalf of the Government of India, the central bank is also giving a discount of Rs 50 per gram to the people who buy gold through digital payment and online method under this scheme. When will the fourth series of SGB be open?

The Finance Ministry said on Thursday that Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) 2022-23 will be open for the fourth series from 06 to 10 March 2023. The tenure of gold bonds under this scheme is up to 8 years and after 5 years, permission is given to exit from this scheme.

Tax on Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs)

SGB ​​has different tax rules. Gains from SGB are not taxed if held till maturity. However, investors can redeem SGBs prematurely after five years. If you keep the SGB invested for between five and eight years, the gains are treated as long-term capital gains. It is taxed at 20.8 per cent with indexation benefit.

If SGBs are sold before three years, the capital gain is added to the income of the investor and taxed based on the applicable income tax slab. Further, the capital gains earned by investors on selling SGBs on the stock exchange after three years are long term and are taxed at 20% along with indexation benefit.
