Kolkata rape-murder case: No protest at the cost of duty or else… Supreme Court’s ultimatum to striking doctors

New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court said about the doctors’ strike that protests cannot be done at the cost of duty. The court was hearing the rape and murder case of a female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. The Supreme Court also expressed concern over the 14-hour delay in filing a case by the Kolkata Police in the matter. The court said that the doctors who are on strike should return to work by Tuesday evening. No action will be taken against the doctors who return to work. The court said, ‘If you (striking doctors) do not return to work, then no one can be held responsible for the disciplinary action taken against you. Protests cannot be done by leaving duty.’ The court questioned where is the document of the time of handing over the dead body for postmortem? There is no mention of the challan. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the CBI, said that the challan is not a part of their records. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the West Bengal government, told the court that he/she could not get the documents immediately and would inform the court about it later. On this, the CBI and the West Bengal government were asked to file a reply.

State government should provide facilities to CISF: Court

The Supreme Court also directed the West Bengal government to liaise with CISF to provide accommodation and necessary security equipment to its personnel deployed at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The apex court noted the Centre’s submission that a CISF company has been accommodated at RMA quarters in RG Kar College, a Kolkata Municipal Corporation school and Indira Matri Sadan. However, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Bengal government, claimed that all the facilities sought by the force have been provided to them. he/she said that most of the personnel are staying in the hospital premises.

Left parties are involved in the conspiracy of the Center: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that the Centre is hatching a conspiracy to incite public outrage in this entire case. She also claimed that some leftist parties are also involved in this. She also said that the victim’s parents were never offered money. At the same time, the BJP has alleged that India’s democracy has bowed its head in shame. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should immediately resign from her post.
