Kolkata murder case: Bengali stars held a rally, demanded justice and raised ‘Halla Bol’ slogans

Several actors and big names from the Bengali film industry joined thousands of people in an overnight protest on Sunday demanding justice for the doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata last month. In a rally that began at the city’s College Square, Aparna Sen, Swastika Mukherjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Chaiti Ghoshal, Sohini Sarkar and several actors marched along Central Avenue demanding justice for the trainee doctor. Many, including actors, also staged a sit-in and raised slogans like ‘Nyay’ and ‘Halla Bol’ and said they would remain at the protest sites till Monday morning. They demanded that a representative of the ruling Trinamool Congress or someone from the administration meet them to address their demands for an investigation into the case and the arrest of those involved.

Actors took out a march in Kolkata

The participants marched and staged a sit-in in several parts of Kolkata, including the Esplanade and the Jawaharlal Nehru Road-SN Banerjee Road crossing. They said they would remain at the same places till 4 am on Monday. The protesters, including actors and artistes from the Bengali film industry, of the ‘Maha Michhil’ (mega rally) staged a sit-in in the busy Esplanade area and raised slogans demanding justice for the victim.

Bengali actors demanded justice

When asked if they would be there till 4 am, director Birsa Dasgupta said, “We have sent a mail to the administration. We want someone to come and talk to us.” Actress Swastika Mukherjee said, “We know the CBI is investigating the case, but reports suggest that there may be an attempt to suppress some details after the doctor’s death. We want answers.”
