New Delhi. Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma will take a decision regarding his/her future at the right time while Virat Kohli’s future in England tour will depend on Shubman Gill. BCCI appeared strict regarding Rohit and Virat in the review meeting of Australia tour. Rohit and Kohli faced a lot of criticism for their performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and questions were raised on their careers as both are over 35 years of age. If Gill shows good form and takes charge of the middle order, then Virat Kohli can be dropped.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the future of Kohli and Rohit was discussed in the BCCI review meeting. It included head coach Gautam Gambhir, Rohit, Ajit Agarkar, BCCI joint secretary Devjit Saikia and ICC president Jay Shah. The ICC President was called to this meeting because he/she had conducted a review after the defeat against New Zealand. India recently suffered a 0-3 defeat at home against New Zealand, which was one of their biggest defeats in recent times.

According to the report, BCCI officials have left the responsibility of taking the decision on Rohit and Kohli to Agarkar and his/her team. They are worried about Rohit’s declining performance in tests. Rohit has scored only 164 runs in the last eight Test matches, which includes the only half-century. Of these, he/she scored 31 runs in five innings played in Australia, where his/her average was only 6.2.
A source told Hindustan Times, “This does not mean that Rohit’s statement ‘I am not going anywhere’ will ultimately prove to be true. The selectors are worried about Rohit’s declining graph in Tests, but it is understood that at present no decision will be taken on captaincy. Rohit himself will take a right decision.”

Barring a century in Perth, Kohli scored only 90 more runs on the Australia tour, making the tour not a memorable one for him/her. “The five-Test series against England is still five months away so the selectors are likely to form an opinion before considering the matter. Shubman Gill has not been able to fit into the role of Kohli yet. he/she is not even close to the level Kohli was at when Sachin Tendulkar retired,”
