Know when and who is most at risk, identify the symptoms in time and trouble will be avoided.

Stroke is a disease in which the blood flow reaching the brain is reduced or stops. Due to reduced blood flow, full amount of oxygen or nutrients do not reach the nerves.
If oxygen does not reach the nerves in full quantity, then these nerves will stop functioning. However, these cells keep working for some time or stop working for some time and then start working again. This condition is also called mini stroke.
Dr Sumit Singh, Chief of Neurology and Co Chief Stroke Agrim Institute of Neuroscience, Artemis Hospital, Gurugram According to this, identifying this condition and treating it immediately can save a person’s life from any kind of risk. Therefore, it is necessary for every person to have complete information about stroke.

There are two types of stroke

The most important cause of stroke is bad lifestyle. Consumption of alcohol, smoking, drug addiction, excessive consumption of tea and coffee, being under excessive stress, insomnia are the main reasons. Along with this, the risk of stroke also increases due to obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, heart disease etc.
Most people know about stroke, but they are not aware of its types. Actually, there are mainly two types of stroke. Ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke.

Ischemic stroke: In this, there is blockage in the blood vessel. Most people become victims of ischemic stroke. Many times people also suffer from transient ischemic attack i.e. TIA or mini stroke. This is experienced only for a few minutes. But in reality it could be a sign of a major stroke to come.

Hemorrhagic stroke: In this, bleeding starts in and around the brain. A stroke occurs when some part of your brain does not get adequate supply of blood and oxygen. Hemorrhagic stroke accounts for about 10% to 20% of all stroke cases. About half of hemorrhagic strokes are subarachnoid hemorrhagic. In this condition, bleeding starts around the brain. The remaining cases are of intracerebral brain hemorrhage, in which there is bleeding inside the brain.

Recognize signs of ischemic stroke in time

Most of the stroke cases are ischemic strokes. In this, due to blood clot, adequate blood flow does not reach the brain. Sometimes this also happens due to atherosclerosis. In this, a blood clot reaches the blood vessels of the brain from the heart or carotid arteries and blocks the blood flow. Some people are at higher risk of ischemic stroke. The risk of stroke increases in high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, atherosclerosis etc. Besides, the risk of ischemic stroke is also higher in case of smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, irregular heart rate i.e. atrial fibrillation, inflammation in blood vessels i.e. vasculitis.

Recognize the symptoms of ischemic stroke
1. Sudden numbness in any part of the body.
2. Feeling weakness in the right or left side of the body.
3. Leaning of the face to one side due to hemifacial paralysis.
4. Sudden trouble in vision or both eyes being on the left side.
5. Sudden dizziness or inability to maintain balance.
6. Having trouble walking or feeling confused.
7. Having a very severe headache.

Know the treatment of ischemic stroke

The matter of concern is that there is no exact treatment for ischemic stroke. However, you can have the blood clot removed and prevent it from traveling to the brain. For this, tissue plasminogen activator i.e. TPA can be done. In this treatment, the clot is removed from the vein of the hand. Apart from this, thrombectomy is also resorted to, in which the blood clot is removed through surgery. Thrombectomy has to be done within six hours of the signs of stroke appearing. However, sometimes it is effective even after 24 hours. After stroke treatment, you should pay attention to both physical and mental health. One should eat low fat food. Exercise should be done on doctor’s advice.

Hemorrhagic stroke can be very fatal

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when blood vessels burst. In this, blood collects in and around the brain. Due to which the brain tissue shrinks and sufficient blood and oxygen does not reach the brain. There are two main causes of hemorrhagic stroke. Aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations i.e. AVMs. In an AVM, the vein that connects the network of arteries and veins ruptures, disrupting blood flow and oxygen. Whereas in aneurysm, the wall of the blood vessel becomes weak and starts swelling and there is a fear of it bursting. The serious thing is that the symptoms of aneurysm are not visible. It usually affects people above 40 years of age. It can also be congenital or hereditary. Its risk increases due to high blood pressure, smoking, alcohol, cocaine, head injury etc. Whereas AVM is usually a congenital disorder.

These are the symptoms

According to NCBI Symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke are similar to ischemic stroke. In this too, symptoms like numbness in the body, weakness on one side, difficulty in speaking, confusion, severe headache etc. are seen.

This is the treatment of hemorrhagic stroke

To treat hemorrhagic stroke, blood from the brain is removed. Also the blood vessels are repaired. Blood pressure is closely monitored to prevent further brain damage.

Transient ischemic attack is a sign of stroke.

To avoid serious stroke, it is very important to know about Transient Ischemic Attack i.e. TIA. This is similar to ischemic stroke. In this also the blood flow in the brain gets disrupted. Although this happens for a few minutes. This can be called a sign of future serious stroke. Its symptoms are also like ischemic stroke. However, these are less serious and go away within a few minutes. TIA symptoms are seen in about 15 percent of stroke cases. You can control it with a healthy lifestyle.

Cryptogenic stroke is beyond comprehension

Cryptogenic stroke is actually a form of stroke in which doctors are unable to find the exact cause. Its symptoms are similar to other strokes. However, due to the lack of clear cause, its treatment can be challenging.

brain stem stroke

This stroke is actually a form of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, which occurs in the brain stem. Its symptoms are similar to other strokes. However, while most strokes affect one part of the body, brain stem strokes affect both. This can cause paralysis. Due to this the respiratory system is also affected. It is very difficult to treat it.
