Know here what rights Rahul Gandhi will have after becoming the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will be the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. In the India Alliance meeting held late on Tuesday evening, Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as the Leader of Opposition was formally approved. Recently, in the Congress CWC meeting, Rahul Gandhi was unanimously requested to become the Leader of Opposition. However, he/she asked for some time to think. It is said that initially Rahul Gandhi was not very keen on this. But after the continuous demand from the party, he/she considered it.

Decision taken in India alliance meeting

Rahul Gandhi, Derek O’Brien and Kalyan Banerjee of TMC, Ramgopal Yadav of SP, TR Balu of DMK, Surendra Yadav of RJD, Supriya Sule of NCP (SP), NK Premachandran of RSP, Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT), RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal were present in the India Alliance meeting. After the meeting, Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal informed the media about this decision. he/she said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written a formal letter to Protem Speaker Bhartrihari Mahtab informing him/her about this. The stature of the Leader of Opposition is of cabinet rank. The Leader of Opposition is a member of the Select Committee formed for many important posts including the CBI Director. At the same time, he/she is the chairman of the Parliament’s prestigious PAC Public Accounts Committee. Actually, PM Modi is the Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha. Congress believes that after Rahul Gandhi becomes the Leader of the Opposition, he/she will emerge as a natural choice for the PM in the next five years.

It is worth noting that in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, Congress did not get enough seats to get the status of Leader of Opposition. Winning at least ten percent of the total seats in the Lok Sabha is necessary to get the post of Leader of Opposition. But as per tradition, this post was given to West Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary from Congress in the last Lok Sabha. This time he/she has lost the election. However, this time Congress has enough numbers to get the post of Leader of Opposition.

Rahul Gandhi will be the face of the opposition in Lok Sabha

Actually, the party believed that now the time has come that Rahul Gandhi should come forward and lead the party. The way Rahul Gandhi led the party during his/her Quit India Yatra, the party wanted him/her to lead the party in the Lok Sabha in the same way. Rahul Gandhi had emerged as the first choice for the Leader of Opposition within the party, so it was being said that this is a great opportunity to come into the leadership role. The party believed that Rahul Gandhi should raise people’s issues in the House by becoming the Leader of Opposition like his/her father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi. According to party sources, just as Rahul Gandhi raised ground issues related to the common man with full force from Bharat Jodo Yatra to the current elections, similarly now he/she will become the voice of the common man in the House.

The party will benefit a lot

It is believed that Rahul Gandhi’s coming into this role will benefit both him/her and the party. After coming into the role of Leader of Opposition, the thinking about Rahul Gandhi will change even within the opposition camp. his/her Bharat Yatras have made Rahul Gandhi an undisputed mass leader, whose strength is being acknowledged by the allies as well as the ruling party and the country, but after becoming the Leader of Opposition, the thinking of those people will also change, who somewhere still feel uncomfortable about Rahul Gandhi.
