Jind, 20 November

The Archeology Department is seriously considering developing the palace of the king of Jind state in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya campus located in Khunga Kothi village of Jind as a heritage site. For this, the district administration has asked for about 4 acres of land from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The initiative for this was started about 4 months ago by the then DC of Jind, Dr. Manoj Kumar. In this connection, the district administration has asked for the return of 4 acres of land from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, on which the old house of Raja still exists. The Archeology Department wants to renovate this ancient Kothi according to the same construction technique on which it was built. There was once an idea to develop Raja Ki Kothi as a tourist destination, but due to it being in a remote rural area, the plan of the tourist destination did not come to fruition. For this reason, the administration and archeology department now want to develop the king’s palace as an ancient historical heritage.

hence the associated name

Khunga village of the district is known as Khunga Kothi only because when Jind was a princely state, the king of Jind state had built a luxurious house on the banks of the canal in this village for his night stay. It was because of this king’s mansion that the name Kothi got associated with Khunga village. Now for the last several decades, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is running in the premises of Raja Ki Kothi on the banks of the canal. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya campus still has ancient constructions from the time of Jind state, which mainly includes the house in which the kings of Jind state used to stay for the night. Regarding the night stay of the king of Jind state in Khunga Kothi, it is also said that the king had received a curse that if he spent the night in Jind, he would die. Only after this, the king of Jind state had built a luxurious house in Khunga village for his night stay.
