Kerala’s AI ambitions showcased at India’s first international general AI conference


The first Gen AI Conclave in India marked a significant moment for Kerala, bringing together leaders and experts from various industries to explore the transformational potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The event, held in Kochi, outlined Kerala’s ambitions to emerge as a leading hub for generative AI, integrate the latest technologies into its academic curriculum, and foster innovation.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stressed the importance of the conference, saying, “This is a step towards making Kerala the hub of generative AI in the country.”

he/she highlighted Kerala’s proactive measures in integrating AI in various sectors, promoting innovation and supporting entrepreneurship. “We aim to draw global attention to Kerala’s AI policies and industries,” he/she said.

Kerala Law Minister P Rajeev echoed Vijayan’s sentiments, calling the conference a historic moment for the state and the nation. “We have incorporated AI in school curriculum and changed the curriculum of universities,” Rajeev said.

“Hosting this international conference in Kochi will accelerate our efforts and enhance human resource capabilities for the AI ​​industry, creating numerous employment opportunities.”

Industry experts also shared insights about the transformational potential of AI. Dmitry Gamarnik, MD and Owner of Comperus, discussed the role of AI in banking automation.

“80 percent of banking processes can be fully automated with generative AI in the next three to five years,” Gamarnik said, emphasizing AI’s ability to analyze risks and effectively optimize banking processes.

Elias Zamora Sillero, Chief Data Officer at Sevilla FC, highlights the impact of AI on sports scouting. “We have matured in data scouting and are now using generative AI to extract meaningful insights from expert opinion,” Sillero explained.

“This approach helps us identify talent based on nuanced criteria beyond keywords.”

Dinesh Nirmal, senior vice president of software development at IBM, emphasized the wide applicability of generative AI across various sectors.

“The General AI Conclave aims to advance the cause of AI by engaging university students, startups and government agencies alike,” Nirmal said. “India’s vast skill pool presents significant opportunities for AI-driven growth across diverse sectors.”

The General AI Conclave has set a precedent for advancing AI capabilities in India, with Kerala at the forefront in fostering innovation and collaboration in artificial intelligence.
