Keeper-batsman caught in anti-corruption code, ICC banned for 5 years, has played ODI-Test-T20 match


New Delhi. West Indies’ Devon Thomas has been banned for 5 years. The ICC took this decision after the wicketkeeper batsman was found guilty of violating the anti-corruption code. 34-year-old Devon Thomas is one of the few cricketers who is a wicketkeeper as well as a part-time bowler. He has also taken wickets in Test and ODI matches.

Devon Thomas made his debut in international cricket in 2009. He played 21 ODIs, 12 T20s and one Test match for West Indies. He played his last ODI match in 2022. Devon Thomas has been playing continuously in T20 leagues in many countries including Sri Lanka, West Indies, United Arab Emirates. The ICC has found him guilty of violating the anti-corruption code in this league cricket.

Devon Thomas was found guilty of giving information related to matches in Lanka Premier League 2021, Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021 and Caribbean League (CPL) and taking money or gifts in return. This ban on Devon will be applicable from last year (23 May).

ICC General Manager (Integrity Unit) Alex Marshall said, ‘Devon Thomas violated the Anti-Corruption Code several times in international and league cricket. He also knew about this. He did this deliberately. Devon Thomas has admitted his mistake. After this, ICC has banned Devon Thomas from all types of cricket activities for 5 years.
