As assembly elections are to be held in Karnataka this year, the game of political manipulation between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress continues. In the latest case, the Congress has filed a police complaint against BJP national president JP Nadda, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi. The Congress has accused BJP leaders of offering bribes to woo voters in the assembly elections.
On behalf of Congress, State President DK Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah have signed the complaint letter and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter. Let us inform that BJP leader Ramesh Jarkiholi recently said during a public meeting in Belagavi that ‘if the sitting Congress MLAs will give gifts and cash worth Rs 3,000, then I will give gifts worth Rs 6,000 to the voters’. However, the BJP has distanced itself from Ramesh Jakiholi’s statement and termed it as his personal statement. Ramesh Jarkiholi was an MLA from Gokak assembly but had to resign in 2021 after his name surfaced in an obscene video case.
In its complaint, the Congress has alleged that this is part of a larger conspiracy, which has been planned on a large scale by the BJP. This conspiracy is also tacitly supported by CM Bommai, JP Nadda and the state president of the party, Nalin Kumar Kateel. Congress alleged that this is an attempt to hijack democracy and also an offense under sections 171B, 107, 120B, 506 of IPC. There are 5 crore voters in Karnataka and the BJP is hatching a big conspiracy to win the assembly elections by distributing Rs 30,000 crore. The Congress has demanded an inquiry into the matter by the IT department and the ED.
