New DelhiWorld Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev is also surprised by Ravichandran Ashwin’s sudden decision to retire from international cricket and he/she believes that the star off-spinner deserved a good farewell on home soil. Ashwin surprised the cricket world by announcing his/her retirement from international cricket after the third Test match played between India and Australia in Brisbane.

“I was surprised as to how one of India’s greatest cricketers decided to leave the game,” Kapil said in a statement issued to PTI. The fans are disappointed but I saw expressions of disappointment on his/her face too. he/she looked disappointed and it’s sad. he/she deserved a better farewell than this. he/she could have waited and announced his/her retirement on Indian soil but I don’t know why he/she did it now. I want to hear their side also. he/she deserves that respect. he/she has played 106 test matches for the country.”

Kapil expressed hope that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make good management for Ashwin’s grand farewell. he/she said, “I have full confidence that BCCI will make good management for the grand farewell of this match-winner of the Indian team.” he/she was always ready to do new things and this made him/her different from others.

The former Indian captain said, “Ashwin was a courageous bowler. he/she could bowl at any time in the match. Do you find bowlers who are very good strategists and adapt quickly to situations? he/she was the captain’s favorite bowler. he/she was the player to win most Man of the Series awards from India. he/she was a player who never gave up. he/she was a rare spinner who could bowl with the new ball like Anil Kumble. Thank God I didn’t have to play with him/her. I would have lost my place because of Ashwin.
