Just before the release of ‘Emergency’, Kangana realized her ‘mistake’, said – it would have been better to bring it on OTT.

Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is now releasing in theaters after controversy, huge protests and rounds of courts. Kangana is also debuting as a director with this film. Apart from being the lead actress and director of the film, she is also its co-producer. The makers also had a long battle with the Censor Board for the certificate. However, it is interesting that now when there is just a week left for the release of the film, Kangana has given a statement. The actress and BJP MP believes that the decision to release ‘Emergency’ in theaters is a ‘mistake’. Kangana Ranaut has said in an interview to ‘News 18’ that on one hand she is excited about the release of ‘Emergency’. However, he/she feels that it would be better to premiere it directly on OTT. Kangana said that choosing to release it in theaters could be ‘a mistake’. Yes, if she had chosen the route of releasing it directly on OTT, she would not have had to face the scrutiny of the censor board and would have got a better deal.

On the tussle with the censor board, she said – I was scared

Kangana Ranaut admitted in the interview that she was ‘scared’. When he/she was asked about the delay in the release of the film, he/she said, ‘I think it was a wrong decision to release it in theatres. I didn’t know what they (CBFC) would remove and what they would allow us to keep.

Directing ‘Emergency’ also considered a mistake

The actress further said, ‘I felt that I had made wrong choices at many places. First of all, it also includes the desire to direct this film. I accepted that even though we do not have a Congress government. I had earlier talked about the film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’. Till date no one has seen that film and at that time they (Congress government) had burnt all its prints. Then no one made a film about Indira Gandhi.

Kangana said- I thought I would escape

Kangana Ranaut said that after watching her ‘Emergency’, today’s generation will be surprised wondering how Indira Gandhi became like this. Eventually, she became Prime Minister three times. The actress said that she underestimated things and thought that she would get away with making a film on the Emergency.

‘We were disappointed, but we coped’

On the struggle between making ‘Emergency’ and its release, Kangana said, ‘There was definitely a disappointment, but we coped. We submitted all the documents after facing scrutiny even on small matters. A lot of historians and people from different provinces and communities looked at it and did not find anything objectionable. Rather he/she admitted that the film had been stopped illegally. But we have great respect for the government bodies and we cooperated with them fully.

Kangana Ranaut abstains from political movies! After ‘Emergency’ she will never make such a film again, she herself gave a big reason

Censor Board is the statutory body of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

It is also pertinent to mention here that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. It is led by Ashwini Vaishnav, a minister in Kangana Ranaut’s Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Kangana has been yearning for a hit film for 8 years

However, ‘Emergency’ is now releasing on Friday, January 17, 2025. Apart from Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and Satish Kaushik are in lead roles in the film. If we look at Kangana’s film career, after the superhit ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ in 2015, 10 of her films have been released till 2023. Of these, only one ‘Manikarnika’ has proved to be average at the box office. Kangana’s previous release ‘Tejas’ (2023) also proved to be a disaster at the box office.
