June is still here and the mercury is touching 49°! Know what the Meteorological Department said on ‘Hunter of Heat’

New Delhi: Even before the month of June begins, the temperature in many states of the country has crossed 45. At some places the temperature is going to reach close to 50. Severe heat wave is going on in many parts of the country. There is a question in the minds of people that when will they get relief from this scorching heat. The Meteorological Department says that there will be some relief in the states of Delhi, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana after May 30. Dr. Mrityunjay Mahapatra, Chief of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the areas of North-West India including Delhi, which are facing severe heat and heat wave, may get relief after May 30. There will be no respite from the heat for the next three days.Temperature likely to be high in June
The Meteorological Department says that severe heat wave is going on in parts of North-West India and it may continue for the next three days. Its intensity will reduce from May 30. Due to active Western Disturbance and moisture from the Arabian Sea, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers over the northwest and central parts of the country. There will not be much rain and there is little scope for relief. In June, the temperature is expected to be above normal in most parts of the country including Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan. Here, severe heat wave may last for more days than usual. In North-West India, heat wave usually lasts for three days in June, but this time such a situation may last for two-four days more.

This time it is hotter in Delhi than before

The maximum temperature in Delhi remained above 45 degrees for the second consecutive day. There is no possibility of respite from the heat even for the next two days. A red alert for heat wave and extreme heat has been issued for May 29. The heat index was 47 degrees. That means in 45 degrees people felt the heat of 47 degrees. On May 31, the moist winds coming from the Arabian Sea will bring down the temperature, but despite the drop in temperature, people will not get respite from the heat. Because people will have to face sticky heat due to humidity. June may also start with light rain. Among the hottest areas of Delhi, the maximum temperature was 47.2 degrees in Jafarpur, 48.8 degrees in Mangeshpur, 48.6 degrees in Najafgarh, 48.4 degrees in Narela, 47.6 degrees in Pitampura and 47.2 degrees in Pusa.

It is not just the temperature that is rising in these cities.

Center for Science and Environment (CSE) has conducted a study on 6 cities of the country – Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. In this study, it has been found that not only the temperature is increasing, but the wind, ground surface temperature and humidity together are pushing these cities towards unbearable heat. A heat index of 41 degrees is considered fatal for people. According to CSE Executive Director Anumita Roychowdhury, in view of this change, there is a need to make a heat management plan for day and night. It is important to take emergency measures during heat waves. Long term plans should be made to reduce this outbreak. For this, there is a need to increase green area and water bodies, improve thermal comfort of buildings, reduce heat emitted from vehicles, focus on AC and industry. The study has compared between January 2001 and April 2024.
