JPC report on Waqf Amendment Bill will be presented in Lok Sabha on Monday

New Delhi : The report of the Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) constituted to review the Waqf (Amendment) Bill will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat states that the chairman of the committee Jagdambika Pal and member Sanjay Jaiswal will submit a report in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The committee on Thursday submitted the report to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

What is the purpose of provisions

This report will be introduced in both Hindi and English languages. The report will also include a record of all the evidence that were presented before the Joint Committee. This evidence is important for discussing the provisions of the Bill. Their purpose is to ensure effective and equitable implementation of the bill.

Some significant improvements for management, operation and monitoring of Waqf properties have been proposed in this bill. The purpose of this bill is to improve the use of Waqf properties. The JPC held a detailed discussion about the bill and obtained evidence from various aspects on it. Now this report will be presented in the Lok Sabha and the further legislative process will be accelerated.

Report accepted by majority

The committee on Wednesday accepted the report with a majority, which included amendments suggested by members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After this, the opposition called the process an attempt to destroy Waqf boards. On the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Joint Committee of Parliament adopted the report on the draft law by 15–11 majority.

Opposition members disagreeed

Opposition members disagreed over the report. BJP members insisted that the bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha in August last year, arranges to bring modernity, transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties. On the other hand, the opposition called it an attack on the constitutional rights of the Muslim community and the intervention in the functioning of the Waqf boards.

Owaisi accused of removing disagreement note

Earlier, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said that his/her detailed disagreement note on the report of the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was removed by the committee chairman Jagdambika Pal without her knowledge. The committee member Owaisi gave a disagree of 231 pages on this report. he/she accused the chairman of misusing the rules of the procedure to replace the report given in connection with the report.
