Joe Root left behind Smith-Williamson, reached the level of Alastair Cook

New Delhi. INEngland’s star batsman Joe Root scored a brilliant century in the ongoing second Test match against England. Root scored the 33rd Test century of his/her Test career at Lord’s. During this, he/she surpassed the records of Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith and New Zealand’s legendary player Kane Williamson. Smith and Williamson have an equal number of 32 centuries in Tests. During this, Root equaled compatriot former opener Alastair Cook’s record of most Test centuries for England. Now his/her focus will be on surpassing the record of Team India’s former captain Little Master Sunil Gavaskar.

Right-handed batsman Joe Root completed his/her century on Thursday in 162 balls. he/she hit 12 fours during this period. Root achieved this feat in 145 matches. This is his/her sixth century at Lord’s. Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene and Pakistan’s Younis Khan have scored 34 centuries each in Tests. The record for scoring the most centuries in Tests is held by legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin has scored the most number of centuries i.e. 51 in 200 Test matches.
