Jodhpur: Rajasthan High Court bans arrest of Baba Ramdev in case of comment on particular religion


Jodhpur, 13 April. Giving partial relief, the Rajasthan High Court has directed yoga guru Baba Ramdev to appear before the investigation officer in a case related to commenting on a particular religion in a program held in Barmer. The matter pertains to the 2nd of February this year, where yoga guru Baba Ramdev had made controversial remarks while addressing a religious gathering in Barmer. After this, a case was registered against Ramdev by a young man named Pathai Khan from Chauhtan area. Now the Rajasthan High Court has stayed the arrest of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev in this case and ordered him/her to appear before the investigation officer on or before May 20.

Know the whole matter

A case was registered against Baba Ramdev in Chauhatan police station of Barmer district under various sections, including trying to disturb harmony, in connection with the controversial remarks made by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev regarding a particular religion. The incident is of February 2, where Yoga Guru Ramdev had come to Barmer to participate in a religious program. In this case, the bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Garg of Rajasthan High Court has stayed the arrest after hearing the miscellaneous criminal petition presented by Baba Ramdev. Issuing notice to complainant Pathai Khan, reply has been summoned by July 2023.

Senior advocate Vivek Raj Bajwa and his/her associate Nishank Madan advocated on behalf of Baba Ramdev. Taking Baba’s side, he/she said that the case filed against him/her is baseless. On the other hand, on behalf of the state government, Mool Singh Bhati presented information about the case registered by the police. The Court has directed the petitioner to appear before the Research Officer on or before May 20, 2023. Let us tell you that Pathai Khan, a resident of Chauhtan, had filed a case against Baba Ramdev in the Chauhtan police station under sections 153-A, 295-A and 298 for inciting religious sentiments and making objectionable remarks on a particular religion.
