In a major decision in its portfolio, American carmaker Jeep Compass has removed the petrol manual variant (Jeep Compass Sport Petrol MT) of the base variant Compass Sport from the Indian lineup. This means that this variant will no longer be sold in India, and the variant with the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and 7-speed DCT gearbox will be considered as the base model.
Sales of automatic variants will continue
It is worth noting here that the company has decided to continue with the sale of the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with the automatic transmission variant. Issuing a statement, the company has clarified that only the manual transmission variant with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine has been discontinued. People will still be able to buy the variant with automatic transmission from their nearest Jeep showroom.
What is the difference between automatic and manual variants?
The manual petrol variant of the discontinued Jeep Compass Sport used to come with a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine that generated 163PS and 250Nm. It was given a 6-speed manual transmission. But the Compass comes with a 2.0-litre diesel unit turbo engine in the automatic variant, which generates power of 172PS and 350Nm. Simply put, the automatic variant is more powerful and costlier than the manual variant. With the manual variant being discontinued, the automatic variant will now be considered as the base variant, which means that the entry level price of the petrol option of the Jeep Compass will go up. Now the lowest variant of this car will cost Rs 21.09 lakh. While the ex-showroom price of its top model will be Rs 31.29 lakh.
