Javed Akhtar’s wife Shabana Azmi does not regret being childless, know why?

Bollywood veteran Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar got married in the year 1984. They are considered the ideal couple who love and respect each other a lot. Shabana also shares a good relationship with Javed’s children Farhan and Zoya. The actress had earlier said in an interview that she expected him/her to be disappointed by not having children, but she was surprised that he/she easily accepted that he/she could not have children. When Shabana Azmi was asked by Simi Grewal in 2000 about the importance of marriage for a ‘working self-reliant woman’, she said that her case was different because she did not have children. She said, ‘Not having children made the choice easier in a way, because I could give more of my time, because I think motherhood is a very demanding job.’

Shabana quickly accepted the fact that she could not become a mother

When asked if it was a ‘huge disappointment’, Shabana said, ‘I was surprised by the fact that it was not so. Initially, I was not sure that I would not be able to become a mother. I was surprised that I accepted it so easily. Even when I realised that I could not have children, I did not let myself feel sad. Packed my bags and moved on, thinking that there were many other things I was grateful for that I could do.’

Why did Shabana not adopt a child?

Shabana was asked if she had ever thought of adopting a child and she immediately said, ‘I never wanted to adopt a child. No.’ When asked the reason, she said, ‘I am friendly with Javed’s kids, so the kids’ needs are fulfilled. They are at an age where I don’t have to worry about changing their nappies.’ Farhan and Zoya also did not oppose her and Javed’s marriage as they were very young then.

Javed has married twice

Javed Akhtar was married to Honey Irani, with whom he/she has two children, Farhan and Zoya. After this, Javed married Shabana Azmi. Talking about Shabana, her name was linked with Benjamin Gilani in the 70s, but later she married Javed. Shabana’s family was against this marriage, but she did not listen to anyone.
