Jammu and Kashmir Assembly’s proposal is not for Article 370… Why did Congress take a different tone from National Conference?

New Delhi: Congress is stuck in a difficult situation after a resolution demanding the return of special status was passed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Its ally and ruling party National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir is supporting this proposal. Congress wants to link this demand with restoration of full statehood, but does not want to raise the issue of Article 370. Actually, Congress does not want to anger National Conference and other parties of Kashmir. On the other hand, it also has to survive the attacks of BJP in the elections to be held in states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand. This double compulsion has become a big challenge for the Congress. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra said on phone from Srinagar on Thursday that the Congress party welcomes the resolution passed by the Assembly on Wednesday. Karra said that this resolution reflects the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. he/she further said that ‘Restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir means restoration of full statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and not restoration of Article 370.’

‘The Congress party is clear about this…’

When asked about the assembly resolution for restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Hameed Karra said, ‘The Congress party is clear about this. When Article 370 was abrogated in Parliament, Congress had strongly opposed it. he/she further said, ‘But, once the Supreme Court gives its verdict (upholding the abrogation of Article 370), all that remains is to demand restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.’

What does Congress want?

Asked how special status for Jammu and Kashmir can be restored without restoring Article 370, Karra said, ‘Please note that there is no mention of Article 370 in the resolution tabled in the Assembly. Has gone. BJP is deliberately misinterpreting this for its petty political propaganda. Restoring the special status means restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and restoring the special rights and laws of the people of Jammu and Kashmir with respect to employment and land and protecting their cultural identity and natural resources. Have to do. Such laws for jobs and land (for people of the state) already exist in about 16 other states.
