New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to reach Pakistan on Tuesday evening for the SCO Heads of State meeting. The Foreign Minister will attend a dinner organized by Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif here. This dinner will be for the delegates coming to participate in the meeting. However, both sides have denied any formal bilateral meeting during the SCO event.

Will be seen with Sharif and Dar

However, the minister is expected to attend the Indian Foreign Minister’s dinner before the main summit on Wednesday. Jaishankar will be seen along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of host country Pakistan and his/her counterpart Ishaq Dar. However it will not be a short trip as previously thought. Jaishankar will probably not spend more than 24 hours in Pakistan before flying back to India.

Poor Pakistan is desperate for talks with India, Shahbaz Sharif government again hinted, will Jaishankar melt down?

Foreign Minister’s visit to Pakistan after a decade

Jaishankar will be in Pakistan on 15-16 October. This will be the first visit of any Indian Foreign Minister to Pakistan in the last decade. However, a day after India confirmed his/her visit to Pakistan, Jaishankar said he/she was not going to Islamabad to discuss India’s relations with Pakistan but to become a ‘good member’ of the SCO. . Apart from Russia, China, Iran and 4 Central Asian countries, India and Pakistan are also members of SCO.

India kept differences aside

India has not let its differences with Pakistan on the issue of cross-border terrorism or even border tensions with China come in the way of its participation in the Eurasian bloc in its participation in the SEO meeting. It is seen as playing an important role in ensuring regional security. Russia’s presence in the grouping has also been a motivating factor for India. Although a pre-scheduled bilateral meeting has been ruled out, a quick meeting could still take place, possibly behind the scenes, on the margins.

India has held Pakistan responsible

India continues to maintain that the onus lies on Pakistan for any forward momentum in relations, which has not seen any substantive engagement between the two countries for the last 9 years. For any rapprochement to take place, India considers verifiable and irreversible action against terrorism by Pakistan essential, and also reviews its decision to downgrade relations after the Indian Government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. .
