It would be better if the Lok Sabha speaker is elected by consensus, understand the meaning of Kiren Rijiju’s statement

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said it is always better if the Lok Sabha Speaker is elected by consensus. his/her remarks came at a time when opposition parties seem keen to contest the Lok Sabha Speaker’s election. When the Parliamentary Affairs Minister was asked if he/she had approached opposition parties regarding the Lok Sabha Speaker’s election, Rijiju said, “It is always better if there is consensus.”

What did Rijiju say about talks with the opposition?
he/she said that before reaching any decision, there will be consultations with NDA allies. On the question of talks with opposition leaders, Rijiju said, ‘We will take action very soon.’

Parliament session begins from Monday
The first session of the new 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24 and the election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is to be held on June 26. The names of BJP leaders D Purandeswari, Radha Mohan Singh and Bhartruhari Mahtab are in discussion for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. A section of political circles is also of the view that the current Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla may get a second term.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the alliance of opposition parties ‘India’ won 234 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA retained power for the third consecutive time by winning 293 seats. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with 16 seats and the Janata Dal (U) with 12 seats are the biggest allies of the BJP. The BJP has won 240 seats.
